We promised in our last edition that we on the WBF Women’s Committee would work to enhance Women’s Bridge and steer some support and development for women across the globe.
Our WBF Women’s Teams Online which has taken place on RealBridge was a major step towards this promise. USA Seabass captained by Susan Zhang was first, USA WIMPs captained by Amy Casonova second and Hungary captained by Orsolya Hegedus was third.
Regular contributor to our newsletters, Mark Horton, sets the scene with his piece ‘When the last card had been played’. Mark also invites you to make contact with him if you have an interesting deal.
Other regular contributors Lone Bilde and Liz McGowan write of their experience for our WBF Women’s Online teams and we have many new contributors making it possible to have a view from across the globe. Hand of the event was Board 3, Session 3 and it’s analysed here three times. Can you spot the three?!
Samantha Punch gives us a BAMSA update and along with Liz McGowan highlights another RealBridge event on April 17 which is a fundraiser to encourage Youth Bridge. See Poster on page 27.
Monika Kümmel tells her story of being a player and journalist and has an invitation for you.
Gilly Clench writes about the Home series Lady Milne Women’s Teams, its history and how such an event can be fun while very competetive.
Sophia Baldysz, another regular contributor this time is looking through the glass of a coach. The online for women is making the world a smaller place and EBL women have an exciting Women’s Online Teams to look forward to on June 7 to 9 organised by the EBL Women’s Committee. See page 28.
Chair of WBf Women’s Committee, Suzi Subeck writes from Chess to Bridge and more.
Our next women’s event is the WBF Women’s Spring Festival BBO Online taking place April 8-14, 2024. Courtesy of WBF President Jan Kamras, the winner will receive free entry to the National Women’s Pairs Championship in Buenos Aires with their partner of choice from the same nation. BBO and WBF are sponsoring BB$ prizes. Games are every two hours to facilitate the global interest, some games are free but still count for awards and prizes and new is the daylong so that players can hop in and out and play their 10 boards at their own pace. A new and exciting revamp of the Festival by BBO.
The Festival, brainchild of the late Anna Maria Torlontano, has been running on BBO since 2008. It was grounbreaking for online at that time. It’s an opportunity to network, meet players across the world while enjoying good competition. For Posters and Information please see pages 27 to 29. Enjoy Women’s Bridge! Mary Kelly Rogers Editor
